What is distracted driving?

On Behalf of | Oct 4, 2023 | Distracted Driving

Speeding, aggression and drunkenness are all leading causes of auto accidents. A car accident can lead to longer-term disabilities, such as paralysis and memory loss. Many car accidents are fatal. One of the biggest causes of auto accidents is distractions.

A distraction is anything that causes a driver to look away from the road. A driver would also be distracted if they take their hands off the wheel. Just a few seconds of distracted driving may be enough to cause an auto accident.

Nearly anything can cause a driving distraction. Here are some common causes of distracted driving:

Texting and driving

Nearly everyone has a phone. Phones make it possible to communicate information across long distances. While phones are a technical revolution, they’re also highly distracting. A call or text could cause a driver to look away from the road and focus on their phones rather than driving.

People who take their phones in their cars may need to consider options to reduce distracted driving accidents. Some popular methods to reduce phone distractions are putting phones on silent mode or turning them off.

Eating and drinking

Fast food makes grabbing a hot meal quick and easy. This is especially great for people who are in a rush and need a bite to eat. However, eating and drinking while driving can lead to accidents. People who grab fast food may need to consider stopping before they eat. Drivers may be less likely to get in car accidents if they park and eat.

Drivers who suffer from auto accidents need to learn about their legal rights if they are seeking compensation for their injuries and losses.
